Water Gardens

A water garden inherently has a water feature in the garden, whether it is a pond, lake or fountain. The United States Botanical Garden in Washington features a water garden called The First Ladies Water Garden. The aim behind this was to show the importance of water in the lives of plants, animals, and humankind. The Blitheword Gardens in Rhode Islands features spectacular water features and simple and elegant plantings. The water garden was built in 1909 and contains tropical fish, and as the birds tend to eat the fish. thus no more fish are placed in the pond! There are seats around the water garden making it a lovely place to sit, read and take in the breathtaking sites. The garden is also home to ferns, perennials, Japanese maples, cherries and weeping willows. The Berkshire Botanical Gardens in Massachusetts is an educational institution that features a lovely water garden. The gardens are superbly designed and the ponds compliment the grounds. The garden was initially established to educate local gardeners in how to grow plants, flowers, fruits and vegetables in the Berkshires.
