DUN GARDENS - Seattle, Washington.

Dun Gardens

Name of Garden:
Dun Gardens

History:
In 1914, Arthur Dunn purchased 10 acres of undeveloped rural land in what is now the Broadview neighborhood of Seattle.

The woodland garden reflects Ed's love of plants. The richness and diversity of the plantings are reminiscent of William Robinson's English woodland gardens. The collection includes rhododendrons, specimen flowering trees, and woodland plants such as erythroniums and trilliums, sited beneath a canopy of fir and deciduous trees that remain from the original garden.

Description:
Plants in the gardens range from diminutive trilliums, no more than an inch tall, to Douglas firs towering more than 150 feet in the air. New and old intermingle, as plants dating back to the 1910s coexist happily with those just set into the soil. Woodland gardens, perennial borders, and great sweeps of lawn are just a few of the elements that make up the garden.

Location:
The Japanese Garden is located on the west side of Washington Park directly above the International Rose Test Gardens.
