History and Description:
River Farm serves as the headquarters of the American Horticultural Society (AHS)

Vision: Making America a nation of gardeners, a land of gardens

Mission Statement: To open the eyes of all Americans to the vital connection between people and plants, to inspire all Americans to become responsible caretakers of the Earth, to celebrate America's diversity through the art and science of horticulture; and to lead this effort by sharing the Society's unique national resources with all Americans.

River Farm is a historic 25-acre site on the banks of the Potomac River in Alexandria, Virginia. Once part of George Washington's original five farms, River Farm has been the headquarters of the American Horticultural Society since 1973, when the Society acquired the property through the generosity of the Enid A. Haupt Charitable Trust.

Today, River Farm features an early 20th-century Estate House and an artful blend of naturalistic and formal garden areas.

Directions:
From Old Town Alexandria:

Take Washington Street south through the city of Alexandria. Washington Street becomes the George Washington Parkway at the south end of Alexandria. Go three and half miles, pass under a stone overpass and take the next left following the signs for East Boulevard Drive, Herbert Springs and Arcturus. Take another immediate left on East Boulevard Drive and the American Horticultural Society will be to your right.

Admission and Hours:
Admission: The site is open to the public free of charge
Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, - Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
