History and Description:
"Boxerwood is a natural community, home to innumerable living things, from fungi to 300-yr old oak, millipede to turtle to human. Our primary function is to educate the human creatures that enter Boxerwood as to their place and role within a natural community."
Among thousands of plants, the arboretum has significant collections of:
- Dwarf Conifers (167 varieties),
- Magnolias (57 varieties),
- Dogwoods (81 varieties),
- Rhododendrons & Azaleas (290 varieties),
- Japanese Maples (154 varieties)

DIRECTIONS - From Lexington Visitors' Center -- Go west on Washington Street to Lee Avenue. Turn left on Lee. Go 2 blocks until Lee ends, turn right onto Preston and (almost immediately) left onto Jackson Avenue. Headed south on Jackson, go 5 blocks and turn right onto Ross Road. Follow Ross Road nine-tenths of a mile (.9). Boxerwood is the driveway on your left. Our mailbox number is 963.
