The Gardens at Philbrook
History and Description:
The original garden designs were a collaborative effort between S. Herbert Hare of Hare & Hare, Landscape Architects & City Planners and Edward Buehler Delk, architect, both of Kansas City, Missouri. Working in tandem with Delk, Hare created a design for Villa Philbrok that combined Italian, English and French garden iconography and featured plants native to the area. The strict geometry of the triple-ramped, walled and gated garden stretches past the balustrade walk, grotto and mirror pond into an area of repose, where the gracefully scaled tempietto marks a point of termination. Beyond the special hierarchy of the formal garden lies the pastoral grove.
Description:
The new south garden boasts a children's maze and sensory garden complete with meditative niches, created from plant materials and wrought iron featuring similar arch designs found in Villa Philbrook.
Visitors can observe many newly planted native Oklahoma plants, and benefit from new outdoor restrooms, a variety of pathways, bridges, a sculpture walk, and a refurbished creek. Ease of access has improved on many levels with all trails connecting and ADA accessibility available throughout the gardens.

. Take 6th Street from downtown east to Peoria Avenue
. Continue South on Peoria Avenue to 27th Place
. Turn East on 27th Place
. Continue East on 27th Place. End at Philbrook Museum of Art South Tulsa to Philbrook Museum of Art
. Travel West to Riverside Parkway (Riverside Parkway becomes Riverside Drive)
. Continue North on Riverside Drive to 31st Street
. Turn East on 31st Street
. Go East on 31st Street crossing over Peoria Avenue to Utica Avenue
. Turn North on Utica Avenue to blue Philbrook Museum signs
. Follow signs to Museum entrance.
